"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones."   Proverbs 3:1-8

Wise counsel is not readily available and accessible today. With life so fast paced and heavily reliant on technology to make things simpler, better and faster, how much thought is given or emphasis placed on what it means to be wise, discerning and understanding?. There’s a huge neglect of character building. “Behold, you desire truth in the inner being; make me therefore to know wisdom in my inmost heart. Psalm 51:6  

Gadgets and systems alone can only fill a certain need but Wisdom must be learned, acquired and applied in order to live a successful, healthy and fulfilled life. “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all your getting get understanding” (Prov: 4:7) The Book of Proverbs, the parables of Solomon son of David, King of Israel, is the ideal place to start. Proverbs offers a wealth of instruction on how to conduct ourselves, and cultivate a life pleasing to both God and man. Proverbs teaches Wisdom, Discipline and helps understand the insights of the wise.

Proverbs 3:1-8 powerfully summarizes the benefits of Trusting God. Rather than investing and relying on systems, people and ourselves, the greatest venture and investment we will ever make is to rely implicitly on the Lord, to submit to Him in all of our ways. Not only are we persuaded to Trust Him, but we are to relinquish our dependency on vain conceits and arrogance, we’re urged to fear Him and shun evil.  “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight” (Prov 9:10)   

“It shall be health to thy navel and marrow to your bones” (Prov 3:8.) The navel represents our core, the centre of our being, the life giving link, (umbilical cord) from which we received our nourishment via our mothers during gestation (development) in the womb. Our complete reliance and dependency on God will serve to nourish and develop us holistically (body, soul, and mind). It will be strengthening and marrow to our bones.  Bone marrow helps immunity and circulation. Interesting to note that our skull, ribs, pelvis and femur, all contain bone marrow but other smaller bones do not. Needless to say these bones house our brain, heart, and limbs!
